XF 2.3 / 3.0 release date

Well, 2.3.3 was released just the other day and 2.3.2 about a month before, so it looks like those quicker release cycles are happening. When 3.0 is coming however, I don't know.
 
I'm not fussed at when it's released. I'd rather wait and have no errors than being rushed with errors.

But i'm going to tag @Chris D anyway who might be able to tell us.
 
Anyway, we are used to being disappointed about this... before the end of the year, not imminent, soon, when it will be ready... :rolleyes:

This is a feature specific to XenForo: the blur
 
Not to mention... If it's extensive of a change as they said... Getting add-ons ready for 3.0 is going to take a LONG time
 
Just to remind everyone that XF 3.0 is just a new style. There is no code changes to XF 2.3.x though there may be some templates modification that we need to make to current custom styles.

Yeah exactly. Probably quite extensive template changes required, though not just for the sake of it but to improve the style architecture for everyone.

But worth noting that XF 2.0 was a rewrite of the entire software including the style. XF 3.0 focuses on the style only. Existing add-ons are expected to work but work may need to be done with templates and template modifications to work fully.
 
I meant in terms of the framework in terms of code versus styles.

Whereas 2.0 required everyone to rewrite everything, 3.0 will only require people to start fresh on styles and template modifications.

Though of course add-ons or customisations that were written specifically for the current editor will need to change to support the new editor as well.
 
From memory you guys had started that when we were still on 1.5 for ages.
Take your time with it @Kier i'd rather this be done properly than rushed with a stack of crazy errors in it.

I think "expected to work" is a bit of a misleading statement.

I suspect what you actually mean is something like:
  1. you are not likely to need to change your code much, BUT
  2. you'll potentially need to do a lot of work on your templates and template modifications
Given than any change to templates in XF 3.0 is likely to break template modifications - it's going to mean a whole heap of work to test and re-do template modifications in addons.

It depends whether it uses template modifications or not.

I made the distinction in my post. Wholly the code is expected to work, class extensions, listeners but add-ons that utilise template modifications may need additional work.
 
XF team made a good decision to release it soon, will get bug reports & move faster as it happened with 2.3
XF 2.3 update brought huge improvements, anyone is happy I think. Fantastic hard work in such a short time!
