What happened to 'Whats New?'

The point is that you'll then lose all content specialization and you'll end up with recent activity or search results, in terms of the visual aspect. Nevermind likely losing things such as thread read tracking being accounted for, etc. And I dread to think the sort of reaction that would get.

Content-type aware pages don't have that limitation.

Don't worry, I have faith that you'll be able to make it work right. :D

I have no idea what the plans are for the future but I could envision other official XF add-ons like the Resource Manager that could use it's own content type. We currently have Resources and Threads, what happens when some time in the future more are added (ie. Articles, Gallery, etc)? Will they only have their own "New X" pages or a "What's New?" page that will have a way of showing everything?

The potential is each content type will have a separate tab.

My issue with that is that people don't see those types of things even when it's right in front of them, the sub-forum dropdowns are a perfect example of this. I do like that idea though, however I'd suggest having the default tab show everything and the individual tabs specific content types.

Should be a tab, not a subtab :)
Agree.
I'm planing to have it once everything is ready as tab (find new...), with "new threads, new gallery images, new articles, new resources" as subtabs

Just not sure where to link the "main tab", because of the missing "global what's new"

Am I the only one who found this thread slightly humorous?

I suppose it is since we can all customise it - it's not a "biggie" really - but you can guarantee this same discussion will be carried out on board after board when people upgrade to 1.2 and their membership reports that "What's New?" is missing afterwards and the new name for it is "all wrong!!!"

Most people habitually click What's New? in XF - it's the go-to button when you login - and semantics being what they are our members are going to say that New threads doesn't have the same ring to it or doesn't mean the same thing; but like most changes they'll get used to it.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when 1.2 get released into the wild ... :ROFLMAO:

Hehehe......I also got thrown for a loop with the missing "What's new?" link and was actually reluctant to click on "New Threads". But, I did, and the first "Unread thread" was this one. LOL! I agree with Alex T. "Unread Threads" seems a better way to name the page. Or "Updated Threads". How just two changed words can cause such a ruckus...:p

I always thought that the reason for calling it What's New in the first place was that it was going to potentially include multiple content types, not just threads.

Having a tab for each content type, threads, gallery images, articles, etc without a combined What's New for everything seems like its making it harder for users to discover content.

Is there a technical reason you can't mix all the new content together?

Eh? Am I missing some link somewhere?

The only Recent Activity link I see is on profiles relating to that user. Are you saying there's a global recent activity for all users?
