I thought it meant if you don't tick optimise, then you store the original. If you optimises you lose the original.

Your screenshot is odd, because I think the default would be the top one.

I checked the optimisation, by default yes it is without optimisation. But the highlighted sentence seems confusing to me.

Default is indeed top one. But honestly, the webp doesn’t lose any significant resolution or quality. So if you want to safe some space, go for the optimization.

Yes I found you can optimize up to 50% at least with no significant loss I could see.

What they don’t tell you is you have control over the amount of optimization:

config.php

$config['maxImageResizeQuality'] = 55;

Don't optimise and the original uploaded file will be stored on the server.

Optimise and uploaded files will be converted to webp.

Sentence should be above options and options should parenthetically include (stores original file), (saves in WebP) respectively. Would save on confusion for me anyway.

Yes I can see how it could imply you have the option to optimize without losing the original, which would indeed be good so you could restore.

Yes the more I look at it , the more it seems to impliy the text is in regard to option 2.

In fact there is no possible confusion, apparently we are just not as smart as the developers.

I don't know, English isn't my first language, but the sentence pretty much makes sense to me.

I see 2 options.
1. Don't optimize (default). Self-explanatory, thus doesn't require any explanations.
2. Do optimize.
Explanations tells me that I can choose either to keep original files (and probably they will be optimized on the fly when requested), or I can choose to keep optimized images (that probably will save CPU during each request).

I find it confusing to use either/or construction in the second option, when the OR in it describes the first option . )

I might be wrong, but it was in config years ago, and it applies to image resizing, not for converting to webp.
