Your personal anecdote does not disprove my assertion - you may be a developer, but you have obviously not created (formatted) content for GitHub or developer sites such as StackOverflow where Markdown is the format used.
In any case, you seem to have missed my point.
Markdown is an elegant mechanism for formatting text which does not require you to remove your hands from the keyboard - thus leading to much more efficient writing when creating headings, formatting lists and so on.
There are plenty of other WYSIWYG editors that automatically convert a * at the beginning of the line to a bullet point and so on. Google Docs does it. Microsoft Word 365 does it. WordPress does it. You'll find a lot of users will be quite familiar with that mechanism.
Full Markdown support is also an option that can be turned on in Google Docs and WordPress and other commonly used platforms too.
WhatsApp messages support a limited number of Markdown formatting options. Slack supports a range of formatting options too. Discord has excellent Markdown support.
It has a place regardless of whether you have used it or not and it is very common across a lot of platforms now. There will be a lot of non-technical users who are quite familiar with these formatting options and the fact that the TipTap editor supports converting them in real time in the same way that Google Docs / Microsoft Word / WordPress / etc all do it - makes it very intuitive to use because you can see exactly what is happening as you do it.
