A copy of the offending content should be quoted in the warning message received by a member.

If the content is deleted, they won't be able to see it and will likely contact the moderator to ask them about what happened. This has caused a significant amount of additional work for moderators at my forum, and encourages users to question their actions and further inflames the situation.
