As mentioned on another thread, my forum closed down a couple of months back (when the OSA became legislation) and the core group of members moved to an Instagram group chat as somewhere to go. Most found this frustrating, as did I. And just not the same as a forum. When I managed to get the forum compliant and back online again, they mostly rejoined again and were happy about it. However it seems some now prefer the Instagram group chat!. Because it's more of a chat experience. And when I said I would be closing it down soon, are asking if we could have both. I'm not keen on that idea as it's complicated - people posting on different platforms and replying on different platforms. Plus most people are back on the forum.
So I'm just contemplating the idea of a separate "chat" thing. But I think it would just stop people posting on the forum. Or possibly having a chat "section/thread on the forum"? Last time I added a chat function on a different forum it didn't work well - everyone was "chatting" and no one posting on the forum!
Edit. Forget that, I just closed the Instagram chat group - gave warning a few days ago. There was only really one person posting to themselves and hoping others would reply and they rarely posted on the forum anyway.
