I don't think anybody uses the custom thread fields system as much as I do. I have thousands of choices + threads. And the only way I manage to keep it sane is to have a backup every day. So if a value gets ever changed and we can't know what the previous value was, I load a backup in my localhost and look up the same thread... Yeah...
